Injury Evaluation
As an athletic trainer, I am trained to examine acute, subacute, or chronic musculoskeletal disorders and medical conditions and arrive at a differential diagnosis regarding suspected pathologies. My assessment consists of:
- A thorough health history including past and current injuries, illnesses, accidents, and surgeries, known family history, and lifestyle behaviors that may be contributing to the dysfunction.
- Physical examination including: postural assessment, visual inspection of functional tasks (walking, climbing stairs, running, etc), palpation, joint and muscle function stability tests, assessments for neurological and vascular abnormalities, special orthopedic tests designed to detect selective tissue or organ involvement, and myofascial tissue assessment.
Although “everything” can hurt, these assessment tools help me determine the exact structures injured differentiating them from adjacent structures that are compensating or guarding as a result of the injury. A treatment plan is then developed that can include any combination of the services I offer. If a technique that I do not offer is what you need to recover, I’ll happily help you find someone who will better serve you.
I re-evaluate regularly to meet your changing needs. I work closely with complimentary health care providers such as osteopaths, chiropractors, sports medicine physicians, physiatrists, naturopaths, physical therapists and acupuncturists and refer to them accordingly.
